Koreksi Geometrik.
Data asli hasil rekaman sensor pada satelit maupun pesawat terbang merupakan representasi dari bentuk permukaan bumi yang tidak beraturan. Meskipun kelihatannya merupakan daerah yang datar, tetapi area yang direkam sesungguhnya mengandung kesalahan (distorsi) yang diakibatkan oleh pengaruh kelengkungan bumi dan atau oleh sensor itu sendiri. Kesalahan-keslahan tersebut terdiri dari:

1. Kesalahan Internal yang disebabkan oleh konfigurasi sensor yaitu:
   1. Pembelokan arah penyinaran.
   2. Abrasi sub-sistem optic.
   3.  Scanning system tidak linier.
2. Keslahan Eksternal, yaitu:
   1. Perubahan ketingian wahan dan satelit.
   2. Perubahan posisi wahana terhadap objek.
   3. Rotasi bumi.
   4. Kelengkungan bumi.

Registrasi
Dalam beberapa kasus, yang dibutuhkan adalah penyamaan posisi antara satu citra dengan citra lainnya dengan mengabaikan sistem koordinat dari citra yang bersangkutan. Penyamaan posisi ini kebanyakan dimaksudkan agar posisi piksel yang sama dapat dibandingkan. Dalam hal ini penyamaan posisi citra satu dengan citra lainnya untuk lokasi yang sama sering disebut dengan registrasi. Dibandingkan dengan rektifikasi, registrasi ini tidak melakukan transformasi ke suatu koordinat sistem.


Prosedur Koreksi Geometrik

1. Memilih metode, dilakukan setelah mengetahui distorsi geometrik dan tersedianya data referensi.
2. Penentuan parameter, menggunakan parameter kalibrasi atau titik kontrol tanah.
3. Cek akurasi dilakukan dengan verifikasi atau validasi.
4. Interpolasi dan resampling untuk mendapatkan citra geocoded yg akurat.
